Wow, this kid is tough. Her mom is lucky to have her.
This is quite the mother-daughter pair; they are really transcending their original bond and becoming a true team. Well, their circumstances basically forced them to do that or perish, but still. They are both a hella stronger and more capable than when they started on this trip, and it's far from over.
If that ring binder contains a personal journal (not trusted to the ship's information system, or written after the Event) it may be very important - though not likely to shed any light on the cause of the tech fail.
Speaking of which, Snowshadow: a long time ago, you asked me what "Bathymetheus" means, and I said I'd tell you when you tell us what happened. You haven't yet, and I'm not expecting that reveal any time soon, but today a commenter on "Dumbing of Age" figured it out, so there's no point pretending it's a secret any more.
By way of preamble, Prometheus was a demigod who stole fire from the full gods (in Greek mythology) and gave it to humans, to the considerable annoyance of Zeus. Prometheus' name means "forethought".
Bathymetheus means "Deep Thought", which I capitalise because it is a Douglas Adams reference.
To anyone reading this who does not recognise that name, I recommend reading "The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy" by Douglas Adams. The humour is very British, which is not to everyone's taste, but it had me laughing out loud.
P.S. The movie is OK, but really doesn't get that style of humour.
Just realised that second paragraph is ambiguous. Sorry if I gave you a heart attack.
"it" refers to my handle, not to the premise of your story.
The movie wasn't near as good as the series, which is understandable seeing they had to fit the whole thing into the space of a movie
Have we forgotten that this ship they're in crash landed from ORBIT? Yeah, some things have been drawn in a mild disarray, but the vast majority of this stuff would be strewn all over the place; it would be a complete disaster. None of any of these plates, books, pieces of furniture, etc would be left so perfect.
There has been discussion of that in the comments. The ship was apparently affected by the Event, but nevertheless managed to make a semi-controlled descent and relatively gentle crash landing. We are waiting for Snowshadow to provide an explanation.
Yeah, it was a controlled descent (probably the pilot left on board realised what was about to happen, and, instead of moving it out of orbit, and condemning those left onboard to a harsh death, or leaving it in orbit and then have it plummet in a fiery death, decided to bring it down)
That... is a very well-preserved corpse, or is it? o_O
