Giant lizard -- It's what's for dinner.
Seriously, it probably goes along with the common trope and does taste "like chicken" as opposed to "Long Pig".
Since I know what "Long Pig" IS, I certainly hope not. O.o
It's a euphemism for human flesh. Apparently it tastes like pork.
And that 'euphemism' is still being used to this day, in the form of the term 'Pakeha'
I know that if I ran into someone who killed a giant monster, I wouldn't be interested in fighting them over the corpse... I'd be more like, "uhm... don't hurt me, please?".
Mighty hunters don't respect people who are easily intimidated.
They do, however, accept fawning compliments as their rightful due.
Not that this applies to our protagonists, of course.
