I mean, points to her for not tarring an entire culture/religion with the same brush, even after having been horribly wronged, but...something about the vibe of this still worries me.
Okay, this is creepy. The other words that come to mind are Stockholm syndrome, Stepford wives and brainwashing.
In situations like this, it is NEVER a good thing when someone is told they need to be "reeducated".

You are correct . . . but I doubt that that's where this story is going.
I've noticed that the phrasing is "the chief took Mary as his wife" (an never something that says she chose to marry the chief) which combined with the "reeducated" remark is concerning.
